Android P possibly bring support for iris scanners

At present, there are more smartphones in the market having the support of more than one biometric authentication mechanisms. If we talk about some popular flagships smartphones such as the Galaxy S9, OnePlus 5T, and the Redmi Note 5 Pro, these smartphones have fingerprint readers as well as face detection.

The Galaxy S8, S8+, Note 8, S9, and S9+, these are the Samsung‘s product which features iris scanner. Otherwise, there’s no native support for iris scanners in Android.

A report from XDA Developers stats that the next major version of Android (Android P) may bring native support for iris scanners to smartphones and tablets. A company named  Fingerprint Cards AB that provides fingerprint readers to a lot Android smartphone brands, including Google, Honor, Huawei, and Xiaomi, is also trying to incorporate native support for iris scanners in Android’s codebase.

According to above image, third-party apps can make use of iris scanner to allow or disallow user on an Android device.
