Samsung Manufactures 7nm A12 Chipsets for Next Year’s iPhone

Samsung Manufactures 7nm A12 Chipsets for Next Year’s iPhone

This is a big win for Samsung, to build 7nm A12 chips for the 2018 iPhone according to The Korea Herald. Considering it lost the deal for the Snapdragon 845 to TSMC whom currently makes the 10nm A11 chip for Apple. The reason for losing out on the Qualcomm deal is because it won’t be ready for 7nm production yet by the time Qualcomm needs them.

A new iPhone is usually released in the 3rd quarter, Samsung would have enough time to prepare for production. The Korean electronics giant just purchased some extreme UV machines specifically to make Apple’s 7nm chips. Testing is ongoing and will soon be completed. Production will then begin after Apple’s approval.

The Qualcomm deal is a loss considering 40% of Samsung Foundry’s sales last year was from the American company. Though there are speculations that Samsung may get deals for mid-range 10nm chips. Some manufacturers may also still release Snapdragon 835 phones next year.

Samsung will first make 8nm chips before making a complete transition to 7nm. Its next Exynos flagship is expected to be built on the 8nm node.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Renders & Details Leaked

Samsung is said to be planning for a quick release of the Galaxy Note 8 around September. A couple of renders of the Galaxy Note 8 leaked recently, basically giving us an idea of what the device may look like.

The leaked renders show the Galaxy Note 8 will have the same infinity display with a near-bezel-less front just like the Galaxy S8. The device will only have slight bezels at the top and bottom but the sides will be curved.

The renders only show the front view of the Galaxy Note 8 so we still haven’t got a view of the rear. However, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is said to come with dual cameras at the rear which consists of two 12MP sensors with Optical Image Stabilization. There will also a rear fingerprint sensor and as usual a Stylus pen.

The Galaxy Note 8 is also detailed in the leak to pack a 6.2-inch display and will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chip on some models and an Exynos 8895 chip on some others.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Appears on Geekbench Fueled by Snapdragon 845

Samsung Galaxy S9 Appears on Geekbench Fueled by Snapdragon 845

An unknown Samsung device appeared on Geekbench today as Samsung SM-G9650 we expect the Samsung Galaxy S9 as per specifications and benchmark scores. Qualcomm has switched back to a quad-core for the 845 and it is clocked at 1.78GHz. The chip is said to be built on a 7nm node but will be made by TSMC instead of Samsung. The reason for that is because Samsung is switching to 8nm and not yet ready for 7nm.

The device is benchmarked as the Samsung SM-G9650. It runs Android 7.1.2 and has 4GB of RAM. We can’t tell the performance of the new chip but we get to see a render script score of 7371 points. The score is not much impressive.
