Reliance Jio 4G Feature Phone Priced Rs.500 will Launch on July 21

Reliance Jio 4G Feature Phone Priced Rs.500 will Launch on July 21

The long-rumoured Jio feature phone with 4G VoLTE support may be unveiled at a price of Rs. 500 on July 21, the day Reliance Industries Limited is holding its Annual General Meeting. A research note by HSBC analyst Rajiv Sharma reportedly says the Jio feature phone will be priced as low as Rs. 500 (less than $8).

Reliance Jio feature phone price

The HSBC research note says the Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone will be subsidized by as much as $10-15 (roughly Rs. 650-970) in order to achieve the price point of Rs. 500. The company is said to have placed an order of 18-20 million units for the handsets with Chinese vendors such as Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Crave and Megaphone. Shipments will start in late July or early August.

The Reliance Jio 4G feature phone is expected to be announced at the July 21 AGM, it will reportedly hit the market on August 15. The feature phone is expected to be launched under the Lyf brand, which is a part of the Mukesh Ambani-backed Reliance Digital.

Jio plan for feature phone users

Reliance Jio is said to be launching a more aggressively priced tariff plan to reach more users. This new Jio plan is said to be priced at Rs. 80-90. Just this week, the company launched a new offer that provides customers with 224GB of 4G data, but this is limited only to those buying a new JioFi device, and not for existing users.

In its April regulatory filing, the operator said it has 112.55 million users on its mobile network. A low-priced, 4G-enabled feature phone with a complimentary tariff plan will give Reliance Jio access to millions of consumers who still use 2G handsets due to the prohibitory costs of smartphones.

Specifications:

According to rumor, the Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone will come in two variants: one featuring a Qualcomm processor, and the other with a Spreadtrum chip. In terms of specifications, Jio 4G feature phone is said to have a 2.4-inch display, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD card support, 2-megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC.

With 4G VoLTE support, buyers will be able to access digital content on the feature phone courtesy the free subscription to Jio apps. In fact, leaked photos of the device show dedicated hardware buttons in the front for MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema, and JioMusic apps. Voice calls and SMSs are also expected to be free with the device.

Reliance Jio broadband service

Reliance Jio is also expected to launch a broadband service – named JioFiber – soon, which might just be announced at the AGM as well. The service is already under testing right now in six cities, though the company said it has plans to expand the trial to more cities. A flyer for the Jio broadband service says users will get 100GB data and 100Mbps speed with the connection, and the service will be free for the first three months. However, they will have to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs. 4,500.

Reliance Jio after providing free internet service in India, now Jio is ready to provide free wifi service in Punjab colleges.

He said that a MoU for providing free Wi-Fi in the campuses of government ITIs, polytechnics, and engineering colleges was signed between private firm Reliance Jio and Punjab government on Thursday.

Reliance Jio would set up the infrastructure and provide its services free of cost. In addition, the company will also bear the cost of equipment and electricity required for the functioning of Wi-Fi, Charanjit said.

Reliance Jio Feature Phone Is Coming Soon

Reliance Jio Feature Phone Is Coming Soon reliance-jio-feature-phone-topkhoj

Reliance Jio is not the only company which is trying his hand in 4G supported feature phone space. Feature phones with 4G connectivity are in the rumors for quite a few months. It was Reliance Jio that was rumored to launch one such phone. a recent Economic Times report tips that a 4G feature phone priced at Rs. 1,500 will soon be a reality. The report claims so as the chip maker Spreadtrum Communications has started slashing prices of its chipsets by half.

According to Spreadtrum, a company that makes mobile phone processors although it hasn’t much success, there are technologies that can make a cheap 4G phone viable. “We are working on a technology that makes a Rs 1,500 4G feature phone viable. We have already started concept promotions to our partners,” Spreadtrum country head Neeraj Sharma was quoted as saying by the Economic Times on Tuesday.

It is also possible that Jio is eyeing the rural India and semi-urban centers with its 4G feature phone. In these parts of the country, consumers may not switch to 4G just to get better data speeds and more bandwidth. Most people outside India’s major cities still use phones for calls, and that is one area where Jio is relatively at a disadvantage compared to other telecom operators.

According to TRAI, Reliance Jio Accounts for Nearly 40 Percent of India’s Broadband Connections. 512Kbps is the minimum speed to qualify as broadband, as per TRAI.

The Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has demanded highest penalty imposed on Sunil Bharti Mittal’s Bharti Airtel as well as direct the company to immediately withdraw the offers. Jio said some of Airtel’s tariff plans and promotional offers such as the so-called “first recharge” ones that, for Rs293 and Rs449 are being marketed in a misleading manner.

It said that Airtel’s advertisements of these offers are an attempt to lure prospective subscribers making them believe that they will be provided 1 GB data per day for 70 days. Under the said plans, Airtel is offering unlimited local and STD calls along with 1 GB of mobile internet per day for 70 days to customers with 4G handsets and 4G SIM. In the case of Rs 293 plan, unlimited calling is limited within the Airtel network.
