Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng is again back with a new statement after the Lenovo Z5 scandal. According to the VP, the world’s first 5G smartphone powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC will be from Lenovo.
Cheng hasn’t revealed any info about the specs of the mysterious Lenovo phone that will powered by SD855 and will feature 5G support. It is expected that the next generation 7nm Snapdragon 855 SoC will be announced by the end of 2018. Some previous reports claim that the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ could be one of the first phones powering by Snapdragon 855 SoC.
A race for World’s first 5G smartphone
However, major smartphone manufacturers are now competing with each other to launch their world’s first 5G smartphone. Huawei is also rumored to debut its first 5G smartphone by June 2019. OnePlus 7 is also expected to arrive as one of the first phones with 5G support and Snapdragon 855 in May or June 2019. Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, ZTE, and Nokia are some of the other companies that are reportedly also working on their 5G smartphones.
Since Huawei and OnePlus are expected to launch first 5G phones by Q2 2019, Lenovo will have to launch its first 5G phone with Snapdragon 855 by in Q1 or early Q2 to fulfill the statement that Cheng has released today.
