Honor X5ds Debuts with Innovative 2.01-Inch Rear Touchscreen, 6,000mAh Battery, and 50MP Camera in the Budget Segment

While secondary rear-facing displays have historically been reserved for ultra-premium flagships and high-end foldables, Honor is shaking up expectations in the entry-level segment with the official launch of the Honor X5ds. Debuting initially in South Africa through major retail and carrier partners, the device brings an unconventional 2.01-inch secondary rear touchscreen directly into the budget tier.

Engineered to combine novelty with everyday endurance, the handset pairs its rear auxiliary display with a massive 6,000mAh battery, an expansive 6.78-inch 90Hz main screen, a 50MP primary camera, and Android 16 Go Edition, establishing a distinct hardware proposition in the sub-$150 price category.

The 2.01-Inch Rear Touchscreen: Flagship Utility on a Budget

The centerpiece of the Honor X5ds is its rear-facing secondary display, positioned alongside the primary camera island:

• 2.01-Inch Secondary LCD Panel: The rear screen features a 240 × 296 resolution, delivering crisp text and touch interactions directly on the backplate of the phone.
• One-Tap High-Resolution Selfies: Users can use the secondary screen as a real-time optical viewfinder, allowing them to frame and capture high-detail selfies and vlogs using the superior 50MP rear camera rather than relying on a lower-resolution front sensor.
• At-a-Glance Glanceability: The rear display functions as an always-accessible dashboard, showing battery percentages, incoming caller IDs, quick music playback toggles, step counters, and clock widgets without waking the main display.

6,000mAh Battery Stamina and Efficient Hardware

Endurance is a fundamental selling point of the X5ds, tailored for users requiring multiple days of uptime:

• 6,000mAh Multi-Day Battery: Backed by an expansive 6,000mAh cell, the phone comfortably delivers over two full days of standard calling, messaging, and media playback.
• 15W Fast Charging: The phone supports 15W charging via USB Type-C, with the compatible charging adapter and a protective TPU case included directly inside the retail box.
• Unisoc T610 Octa-Core Silicon: Powering the phone is the Unisoc T610 processor, featuring two ARM Cortex-A75 performance cores clocked up to 1.8GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

Android 16 Go Edition, Pricing, and Regional Rollout

To ensure snappy performance on entry-level hardware, the Honor X5ds runs a streamlined build of Android 16 Go Edition. System resources are optimized to prevent background bloat, keeping memory free for active tasks while reducing overall data consumption.

Available in Forest Green and Midnight Black, the Honor X5ds is currently rolling out across carrier channels (including Telkom) and retail portals like Bash in South Africa, priced at approximately $120 to $140 (~₹10,500 to ₹11,999).

While broader international availability has yet to be finalized, Honor’s decision to integrate a functional 2.01-inch secondary touchscreen into a sub-$150 smartphone sets a compelling precedent for how budget hardware can stand out in a sea of uniform designs.
