Google VR180 Cameras Capturing 180° VR Videos Launching soon

Google VR180 Cameras Capturing 180° VR Videos Launching soon

Google is set to launch a new VR format dubbed VR180 which would offer more limited cinematic VR output. The new VR180 project is the product of a collaboration between YouTube, a subsidiary of Google and Google’s Daydream VR division. VR180 will also include the production of a new line of compatible cameras by Yi, Lenovo, and LG as well as other partners who meet the VR180 certification standards.

The VR180 won’t stretch up to those produced by 360-degree cameras. The videos can also be viewed as traditional flat videos outside virtual reality but can also be watched in 3D VR via the YouTube app with a Google Cardboard, Daydream, or PlayStation VR headset.

Video creators will also be able to shoot videos using any camera with a VR180 certification with the trio of Yi, Lenovo, and LG emerging as pioneers that are working in collaboration with Google’s Daydream team for now. The first set of products are expected to be launched this winter and would likely carry almost the same price tag as the regular point-and-shoot camera. It appears to have two wide-angle lenses that can shoot stereoscopic video, and it’s just a simple design, a far cry from the expensive alien orbs that are often seen in VR film shoots.

The cameras may not be available to buy sometime soon but Google is giving creators the opportunity to loan one from one of its YouTube Spaces, located in nine major cities worldwide. YouTube video creators will also be able to shoot just like they do with any other camera and in the near future, the videos can be edited using Adobe Premiere Pro and other standard software.

it doesn’t need the same time-consuming (and often expensive) stitching as videos made with, say, Google’s 360-degree Jump system. Creators can easily put a person behind the camera without them appearing in the shot whereas 360-degree camera bares all with nothing hidden. Filmmakers often literally hide behind objects during a scene when shooting using panoramic cameras but that won’t be the case anymore. Another thing is that the file sizes would be reduced drastically so viewers will stream the videos faster and with less annoying buffering gaps while streaming.

YouTube Unveils VR180 Video Format 1.5 billion logged in viewers

YouTube Unveils VR180 Video Format 1.5 billion logged in viewers

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki at VidCon on Thursday announced an all-new video format VR180 that will make VR content creation slightly easier for creators. Google has also confirmed that the Daydream team is working with several manufacturers to build cameras from the ground up for VR180 video format.

The company says that the new VR180 video will ensure what’s in front of the user is high resolution, and “look great on desktop and on mobile.” The new video format will enable depth, where “near things look near, and far things appear far,” adds Wojcicki. Additionally, the VR180 format also supports live streaming videos.

Google has named some partners like YI, Lenovo, and LG who are working with the company to bring new cameras priced same as a regular point-and-shoot camera. Videos and live streams will be easy to upload to YouTube from these cameras. Google has revealed that the first cameras will hit shelves this winter. The new format is capable of delivering 3D video while capturing 180 degrees of vision.

“We want to make VR more accessible and more affordable for viewers and creators. The reality is, filming 360-degree VR videos isn’t easy for most creators and some VR cameras are expensive. That’s why I’m thrilled that YouTube and Daydream have worked together on a new format, VR180, and new cameras, which makes it easy and affordable for anyone to make VR videos,” said Wojcicki.

Wojcicki also revealed that now, 1.5 billion logged in viewers visit YouTube every single month and on an average, viewers spent over an hour a day watching YouTube on mobile devices alone. YouTube also announced an all-new change to YouTube app which will in the coming weeks “dynamically adapt” to whatever size users choose to watch it in.

The company will soon let user share a video with friends right from YouTube app and this will be available to users in Latin America and the US in a couple of weeks.

YouTube new Policy to curb extremist videos

YouTube new Policy to curb extremist videos

After Facebook(Facebook said that it uses Artificial Intelligence to remove the terror-related content.), YouTube has also introduced four steps to confront extremist activity.  YouTube has been working with various governments and law enforcement agencies to identify and remove this content said  Senior Vice-President and General Counsel of Google Kent Walker.

youtube new policy curb extremist videos

The first of the four steps is expanding the use of their automated systems to better identify terror-related videos, using machine learning to “train new content classifiers to help us more quickly identify and remove such content”.

The second step is the company is also expanding its pool of “Trusted Flagger” users; a group of experts with special privileges to review flagged content that violates the site’s community guidelines.

The third step would be hiding videos like ones that contain inflammatory religious or supremacist content — that do not violate community standards, behind a warning. And the fourth step is The company will do more with counter-radicalisation efforts by building off of its “Creators for Change program”, which will redirect users targeted by extremist groups such as Islamic State (IS) to counter-extremist content.

On Sunday, Google, YouTube’s parent company, announced a set of policies aimed at curbing extremist videos on the platform. For videos that are clearly in violation of its community guidelines, such as those promoting terrorism, Google said it would quickly identify and remove them.

Under the policy change, Google said offensive videos that did not meet its standard for removal — for example, videos promoting the subjugation of religions or races without inciting violence — would come with a warning and could not be monetized with advertising, or be recommended, endorsed or commented on by users. Such videos were already not allowed to include advertising, but they were not restricted in any other way.
Google also announced a series of measures aimed at identifying extremist videos more quickly, an effort that the company started this year as YouTube tries to assure advertisers that its platform is safe for their marketing dollars.

YouTube Go Beta App Now Available in India

YouTube Go Beta Now Available in India

Alphabet Inc’s Google announced that a public YouTube Go beta is now available for users to try out in India. Which is specifically focused on offering an improved experience in areas with poor connectivity.

A beta version of the app has been released in the Google Play Store in India, and will be released in other emerging markets later, company executives said in an interview.

Silicon Valley has long regarded India, with its population of 1.3 billion people and poor connectivity, as a prime place to test products for emerging markets.

YouTube executives said they sought to build a product for Indian users from the ground up rather than releasing a slimmed-down version of their primary app.

“As we talked to people in the market, they didn’t want something that felt like a stripped down version of YouTube – they wanted the full experience,” said John Harding, vice president of engineering at YouTube.

Reliance Jio’s entry has boosted video consumption in India, analyst Neil Shah of Counterpoint Technology Market Research questioned whether YouTube Go would remain popular as cheap data plans become more prevalent.

“The only future I see for YouTube Go is for feature phones or basic phones,” he wrote in an email.

But with 180 million mobile users in India and mobile watch time climbing 400 percent year over year, YouTube has strong momentum in India, Jay Akkad, a product lead at YouTube, said.

Google I/O 2017: Android Go New Version Android

At Google’s I/O annual developer conference, the company announced a new initiative to continue and extend these efforts, “Android Go” will be a part of Android O, and it will also include optimized versions of apps and the Google Play Store to reduce resource and data usage.

Sameer Samat, Vice President, Android, and Play took to the stage to talk about Android’s reach across countries and across the smartphones of all kinds. In order to bring Android to everyone, the company announced a stripped down software, called Android Go, for entry-level Android devices with 1GB or less of memory.

Android Go will be focused on building a version of Android for phones with less memory, with the System UI and kernel able to run with as little as 512MB of memory. Apps will be optimized for low bandwidth and memory, with a version of Play Store designed for those markets that will highlight these apps. Google is also launching a new program called “Building for Billions” to help developers create these new optimized apps.

Google is also designing apps like YouTube Go, Chrome and Gboard to use less memory and are easy to mobile data. The company is making optimizations to the system UI and the kernel to allow an Android O device built with the Go configuration to run smoothly on as low as 512MB to 1GB of memory.

Android Go will be made available in 2018.

The company is now even looking to come up with high-end ultra high definition (4K) technology at affordable price range even as it steps up its consumer research here.

The company will also launch a new range, which will have YouTube button on remote control, later this year.

The company’s research team in India conducts studies about consumer behavior, the pattern of TV usage, kind of program watched, preference for particular picture and color; and the kind of sound they like.

Sony’s popular 46 and 49 inches model range developed specially for India, he said: “The Indian people, they like Bollywood movies. They are crazy about sound and they never compromise on sound. Even they like to be very colorful. So, the color reproduction should be very precise.”

The effort, thus, was to highlight color reproduction as much as possible, while a subwoofer was added to cater to their preference for sound with the TV, Sony India Pvt Ltd Managing Director Kenichiro Hibi said.

“We found that many consumers are watching YouTube on TV and they faced difficulties in accessing due to multiple steps on the remote button. Our new product will remove all that with a single button,” Hibi said.
