HMD Vibe 2 Pro 5G Review & Buying Guide: 6,000mAh Battery, 64MP Sony Camera, and Clean Android 16 Tested

Finding an honest, bloat-free budget smartphone under twenty thousand rupees in India has become surprisingly frustrating. Most options force you to navigate through intrusive pre-installed games, endless lock-screen glance ads, and aggressively cost-cut hardware. Starting at ₹15,999 on Flipkart, the HMD Vibe 2 Pro price in India positions this handset as a direct alternative for buyers who prioritize pure battery longevity, a clean Android experience, and dependable daily optics over flashy marketing gimmicks.

Serving as the beefed-up sibling to the entry-level Vibe 2, the HMD Vibe 2 Pro 5G brings noticeable upgrades where they count most. It pairs a large 6.78-inch 120Hz display with a high-capacity 6,000mAh battery, a proven 64MP Sony IMX682 primary sensor, and Android 16 with localized on-device Sarvam AI voice assistance.

However, competing in the sub-₹18,000 category against the likes of Realme, POCO, and Samsung always involves distinct hardware trade-offs. Here is how the Vibe 2 Pro holds up in the real world.

Battery Endurance: Two-Day Stamina with 33W Patience

The primary reason anyone should consider the Vibe 2 Pro is battery confidence:

• Real-World Two-Day Runtime: With an internal 6,000mAh battery paired with an energy-efficient 6nm processor, the phone easily cruises through two full working days of mixed use-including WhatsApp messaging, YouTube streaming, navigation, and social browsing. You can step out for a weekend trip without packing a power bank.
• The 33W Charging Speed: HMD includes a 33W Type-C fast charger in the box-a welcome relief when brands like Samsung omit wall adapters entirely. However, refilling a 6,000mAh cell at 33W isn’t instantaneous; taking the phone from flat to 100% takes roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes. If you need rapid 15-minute top-ups before heading out, you will have to plan ahead.
• Sensible Packaging: Along with the 33W power adapter, HMD bundles a flexible clear case and a pre-applied screen protector, sparing you immediate accessory shopping.

Display and Industrial Design: Big Screen, But IPS LCD

On the front, the phone goes for sheer scale, but the display panel choice reflects its budget boundaries:

• Expansive 6.78-Inch 120Hz Canvas: The front is dominated by a flat 6.78-inch Full HD+ (1080 × 2460 pixels) IPS LCD with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Text is sharp at 396 PPI, animations feel fluid, and touch response is snappy during scrolling.
• The LCD Compromise: While bright enough for outdoor use at 800 nits high-brightness mode, this is an IPS LCD panel, not an AMOLED. If you watch a lot of movies in pitch-dark bedrooms, you will notice grayish letterboxing instead of the deep, inky blacks that competing AMOLED panels offer.
• Practical Ergonomics: Despite packing a heavy battery, HMD has kept the phone’s weight to 197 grams. The rear features a clean matte polycarbonate backplate available in Cosmic Purple, Silver Mist, and Aqua Green, resisting fingerprint oils far better than cheap glossy plastics.

Sony IMX682 Optics vs. The 2MP Auxiliary Filler

Budget camera setups often promise the moon and deliver digital mud. HMD makes a sensible choice on the primary lens, though the secondary shooter is familiar filler:

• 64MP Sony IMX682 Main Sensor: The headline camera relies on Sony’s venerable 64-megapixel IMX682 sensor (f/1.8). Using 4-in-1 pixel binning, it captures well-exposed 16MP photos with natural skin tones and surprisingly respectable dynamic range in daytime lighting. It also supports 1080p video recording at 30 fps.
• The Useless 2MP Macro: Instead of providing an 8MP ultra-wide camera that users would actually benefit from when capturing landscapes or group photos, HMD saddled the backplate with a basic 2MP macro camera. Like most 2MP sensors in this segment, it produces noisy, low-resolution close-ups that are rarely worth using.
• 13MP Selfie Shooter: A centered punch-hole houses a 13-megapixel front camera that handles Google Meet calls and casual social media selfies with decent clarity.

Dimensity 6300 Silicon and Localized Sarvam AI

Under the hood, the Vibe 2 Pro focuses on daily operational smoothness rather than benchmark dominance:

• MediaTek Dimensity 6300 (6nm): Powered by an octa-core setup (two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz) with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, the phone handles day-to-day multitasking and split-screen apps without stutter. It runs games like BGMI and Free Fire adequately at medium settings, though high-frame-rate gamers should look toward dedicated performance silicon.
• Clean Android 16 with No Clutter: The software interface is remarkably close to stock Android. You get Google’s default dialer, clean system fonts, and none of the predatory full-screen banner advertisements that plague budget Chinese UI skins.
• Indus AI by Sarvam: In a unique localized software push, HMD has integrated Indus AI by Sarvam, offering on-device generative AI assistance with native voice and text support across more than 22 Indian regional languages. It is genuinely handy for drafting formal letters, translating local texts, or asking voice queries in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali.

Buying Verdict: Should You Buy the HMD Vibe 2 Pro?

In a market saturated with aggressive marketing and bloated software, the HMD Vibe 2 Pro takes a refreshingly pragmatic approach:

1. Who Should Buy It: Buyers looking for a dependable workhorse with two-day battery life, a clean Android 16 interface without spammy notification ads, a reliable Sony 64MP primary camera, and the convenience of a 3.5mm headphone jack and an in-box charger. The built-in Sarvam AI language support also makes it a fantastic pick for non-English-first users.
2. Who Should Skip It: Gamers looking for high-frame-rate esports muscle, or binge-watchers who insist on an AMOLED screen with deep black levels. In that case, spending slightly more on an iQOO Z-series or Samsung Galaxy F-series phone makes more sense.

At its current pricing, the HMD Vibe 2 Pro 5G delivers the essentials with quiet competence-proving that dependable daily reliability still has a valued place in the budget market.
