Global digital asset marketplace OpenSea has officially launched Solana NFT trading across its platform, marking the network’s return to the venue under OpenSea’s next-generation OS2 architecture. The deployment makes Solana the first non-Ethereum Virtual Machine (non-EVM) network to gain native NFT trading support on OpenSea following the conclusion of the company’s experimental 2022 beta.
With the rollout, collectors and creators can discover, buy, and sell verified Solana collections directly alongside assets from more than 25 supported blockchains without switching between separate network-specific platforms.
30-Second TL;DR
- Core News: OpenSea has officially enabled Solana NFT trading via its rebuilt OS2 cross-chain engine.
- Key Detail: Major Solana collections-including Mad Lads, Claynosaurz, BoDoggos, Collector Crypt, and Phygitals-are now live for trading.
- What It Means: OpenSea is breaking outside the EVM standard, competing directly against established Solana-native marketplaces like Magic Eden and Tensor.
Solana Returns via the OS2 Architecture
OpenSea originally trialed Solana digital collectibles during an initial beta phase in April 2022. However, that early implementation was limited to roughly 165 collections and faced stiff competition from specialized ecosystems before being phased out.
The latest rollout is integrated through OS2, OpenSea’s rebuilt multi-chain protocol. OS2 connects fungible token swaps and NFT settlement across 19+ networks into a unified interface. After introducing native SOL token trading and multi-chain checkout mechanics, adding native Solana NFT settlement fulfills OpenSea’s roadmap to create an all-in-one on-chain asset hub.
Non-EVM Support Across OpenSea’s Network Matrix
Until this release, OpenSea’s active network support was almost exclusively comprised of EVM-compatible Layer 1 and Layer 2 ecosystems. Adding Solana establishes native high-throughput, low-latency execution alongside OpenSea’s existing cross-chain routing.
| Network | NFT Trading Support | EVM Compatible | Primary Token Standard |
| Ethereum | Full Support | Yes | ERC-721 / ERC-1155 |
| Polygon | Full Support | Yes | ERC-721 / ERC-1155 |
| Solana | Full Support (Live via OS2) | No (Non-EVM) | Metaplex Digital Asset Standard |
| Base / Arbitrum / Optimism | Full Support | Yes | ERC-721 / ERC-1155 |
| Monad / Sei / Berachain | Full Support | Yes | EVM Standards |
Competitive Dynamics in the Solana Ecosystem
The move places OpenSea back into direct competition with Magic Eden and Tensor, which have long captured the majority of Solana NFT trading volume.
OpenSea’s primary advantage lies in its cross-chain visibility. Collectors with holdings across Ethereum, Base, and Polygon can now purchase high-profile Solana assets-such as Mad Lads and Claynosaurz-using cross-asset payment rails without needing to bridge funds manually across external decentralized exchanges.
Consolidating Market Share in a Maturing Sector
The multichain expansion comes at a pivotal moment for digital asset marketplaces. Following the sharp contraction from the 2021-2022 market peak, centralized platforms like Binance NFT and legacy services such as Nifty Gateway and X2Y2 have scaled down or discontinued operations.
By unifying tokens, high-liquidity meme coins, and cross-chain NFTs under OS2, OpenSea is positioning its infrastructure as a diversified liquidity hub rather than a standalone art gallery.
